BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) will officially launch its new all-electric sedan, the e7, on Saturday, May 17. The model is expected to focus on the shared mobility and fleet market, aiming primarily at corporate customers.
The launch date was confirmed today by Wang Junbao, General Manager of BYD’s Corporate Business Unit, in a post on Weibo. His statement further suggests that the midsize e7 sedan is positioned to serve the needs of ride-hailing platforms and business fleets, rather than individual retail buyers.
The model falls under the brand’s e-series, which stands apart from BYD’s typical naming themes of dynasties and ocean creatures. The last update in this series came in March 2024, when BYD introduced the e2 Glory Edition.
The e7 appeared in China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) regulatory catalog in January, revealing its dimensions: 4,780 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width, and 1,515 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,820 mm. It is powered by a single 100 kW electric motor, offering a top speed of 150 km/h.
Two battery options are available: 48 kWh and 57.6 kWh, delivering CLTC ranges of 450 km and 520 km, respectively. BYD teased the e7 with several preview images back in March, hinting at a practical sedan tailored for urban EV use.
BYD has focused exclusively on new energy vehicles (NEVs) since March 2022, ending production of traditional combustion cars. In April 2025, the company sold 380,089 NEVs, including 372,615 passenger cars and 7,474 commercial units. The e2, another model in the e-series, sold 612 units that month—down year-on-year, but showing a month-over-month increase.
