BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY)'s energy storage division, BYD Energy Storage, has signed a new agreement to supply equipment for an energy storage project in Chile.
The company announced today that it has entered into a supply agreement with Spanish renewable energy firm Grenergy to provide 3.5 GWh of energy storage systems for Phase VI of the Oasis de Atacama project in northern Chile.
BYD Energy Storage previously supplied 3 GWh of systems for the project's first three phases. With this latest agreement, the total contracted supply volume has been expanded to 6.5 GWh.
BYD stated that this is the largest energy storage supply agreement in the Latin American region.
BYD Energy Storage will provide 624 units of its MC Cube-T BESS to Grenergy’s Elena project, a key component of the Oasis de Atacama initiative. The project features 446 MW of photovoltaic capacity and 3.5 GWh of energy storage.
According to BYD, the MC Cube-T BESS integrates its proprietary Blade Battery directly into the system, achieving a space utilization rate of up to 98%.
BYD also noted that the Oasis de Atacama project is one of the largest electrochemical energy storage projects in the world, with a total planned storage capacity of up to 11 GWh.
David Ruiz de Andrés, CEO of Grenergy, commented that the total installed capacity of the Oasis de Atacama project now exceeds the energy storage capacity of either the UK or Germany, setting a benchmark for 24/7 clean energy supply.
BYD is one of the world’s leading battery manufacturers. According to data compiled by FANS BYD, the company’s cumulative installed capacity of power and energy storage batteries reached approximately 79.031 GWh from January to April 2025, representing a year-on-year growth of 86.86%.
