The latest addition to BYD's (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) fleet, the BYD Shenzhen car carrier, has been commissioned and set sail.
The car carrier was officially delivered to BYD today in Yizheng, in eastern China's Jiangsu province, marking a new development in the company's global sales and supply chain for new energy vehicles, BYD said.
The BYD Shenzhen is the fourth car carrier operated by BYD and was built by a shipyard owned by China Merchants Group, according to Shenzhen-based BYD.
The vessel has an overall length of 219.9 metres, a beam of 37.7 metres and a speed of 19 knots.
With 9,200 standard loading spaces, it is the world's largest car carrier in operation in terms of loading capacity.
BYD said the vessel is a green, smart, environmentally friendly and efficient car carrier with the latest LNG dual-fuel clean power technology and the use of energy-saving devices, drag-reducing anti-fouling paints and other technological solutions.
In the first quarter of this year, BYD's car carriers have delivered more than 25,000 NEVs around the world, according to the company.
Up to now, BYD's new energy vehicles have spread their footprints to more than 100 countries and regions and more than 400 cities around the world.
The commissioning of BYD's Shenzhen plant will further enhance BYD's delivery capacity to key global markets, shorten transportation cycles and reduce logistics costs.
It will also help BYD's new energy vehicles reach global customers faster and safer.
BYD will continue to increase its investment in new energy logistics and contribute Chinese solutions to the global goal of “carbon neutrality”.
On January 15, BYD Shenzhen car carrier completed its docking in Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province, which means that the vessel has completed its construction and is ready to start its sea career.
Following the BYD Shenzhen, the BYD Changsha and BYD Xi'an are not far from being put into operation.
BYD Changsha is the fifth car carrier in BYD's fleet and its second car carrier with a capacity of 9,200 cars.
BYD Xi'an, BYD's sixth car carrier, was officially launched on April 2nd.
BYD Explorer 1 is the first vessel in BYD's fleet with a capacity of 7,000 cars. The vessel was chartered to BYD by another shipowner and put into operation in January 2024.
BYD Hefei is the first car carrier for which BYD is the shipowner, and the first car carrier named after the city where BYD's automobile production base is located, with a capacity of 7,000 cars.
BYD Hefei will be completed by the end of September 2024 and started its maiden voyage on January 7 this year, carrying nearly 5,000 new energy vehicles to Europe.
BYD Changzhou, launched in October 2024, is the second BYD ship named after an automobile production base after BYD Hefei.
The BYD Changzhou, which entered service in December 2024 and has a capacity of 7,000 vehicles, carried 5,000 new energy vehicles on its maiden voyage to Europe.
